About the School Nurses Association of NSW

The School Nurses Association of NSW was established in 1981 as the professional peak body for registered nurses working in schools, including private and public, day and boarding schools. The Association aims to set a standard for primary health care across the entire school community.

A POTTED HISTORY
1981 23rd April - The first meeting of School Sisters Association
1991 Name change - NSW School Nurses Association 
1994 Incorporation and development of logo 
1995 First Handbook produced 
1998 Second edition of Handbook 
2000 Revised medication guidelines 
2004 Third edition of Handbook; name changed to Guidelines for School Nursing
2004 Name changed to School Nurses Association of NSW Inc; new logo and launch of website

BENEFITS OF BEING A MEMBER 
Peer support
The School Nurses Association of NSW offers a forum for peer and professional support and networking within the school nursing community. It encourages the sharing of ideas and support for members, who often work in isolation, as well as the exchange of knowledge and skills.
The network also helps school nurses keep ahead of current issues or problems, such as the ability to track diseases.

Professional development and support.
The Association promotes continuing education, by means of seminars, lectures and printed information. It also hosts a two-day annual professional development workshop. The Association also produces supporting material such as these guidelines and a newsletter each school term.

Representation
The Association represents its members to the NSW Nurses Association, and provides a united and authoritative voice for nurses working in schools.

Access to information
Being a member of the Association means easy access to a single source of information. The Association notifies members of events, education opportunities and updated circulars.

BECOMING A MEMBER
